This week’s issue of Vue Weekly is their Hot Summer Guide special issue, which has dozens of pages of summer activities and events to keep even the most mosquito-phobic reader outside through the warm months. For the Guide I did up a special column on biking and beer. It is a kind of virtual bicycle pub crawl. My premise was to talk about good beer destinations close to the Edmonton’s bike trails – in locations where you wouldn’t have to fight traffic on your bike to get a good beer.

I have spent a lot of time this spring riding the river valley trails in Edmonton (man, they go a long way!), as I have been training for the MS Leduc-Camrose Bike Tour coming up this weekend. So it was fun to mix my increasingly intimate knowledge of the trails’ corners, climbs and conifers with some of Edmonton’s better beer places.

Obviously, there wasn’t room to pick every possible bike-accessible beer spot, so I just highlighted a few that work well with bicycling on the trails. If you have other ideas, I would love to hear them, as I haven’t been everywhere in town.

I should hasten to add that I don’t really recommend actually DOING the pub crawl in one shot. Biking with a few beer in you is NOT a good idea, mister. Your mother definitely would not approve. Consider these destinations as final stops after a good ride for a responsible pint and then home with you.

It is a fun read, I think. You can read the whole thing here.
