Just a quick note to highlight that Wild Rose today announced the release of its latest seasonal, Czech Pilz, which is, obviously a Bohemian Pilsener. But one with a difference it seems. Head brewer Dave Neilly says he used Vanguard hops to give it a different feel from most pilsners. That type of hops was new to me – it apparently is a U.S. hop bred from traditional German hops, which would likely give it a hybrid quality. Wild Rose will be releasing it officially this friday by tapping a cask-aged version of it at the Taproom (oh boy, to be in Calgary that day…). It will be available in select liquor stores across Alberta in a week or so. Your best bet is to head to your favourite store specializing in beer (or call the brewery, they will tell you where it is). If I get a bottle into my hands I’ll let you know what it tastes like.
