I accidentally slipped past my latest Vue Weekly missive last week, which was a written version of my Quebec City report. The reality is that when I go on a beer-related trip, everyone gets two, three or even four versions of my time there. Such is the reality of writing for multiple publications.

At any rate, I walk through the four brewpubs and discuss their different personalities and flairs. It is interesting for me to look back at the trip a couple months later – I really liked how homey and community-minded the beer scene seemed in Quebec City. Not stuck up, not needing to be anything other than what it was. It was a real treat.

I also wonder if sometimes beer geeks look too much for the “world killer” beer – that ultra unique, best of style kind of beer. Maybe the brewpubs of Quebec City aren’t Dieu Du Ciel or Dogfish Head or whoever, but they are making artisanal beer with a local community in mind. They are passionate about beer AND about serving their community. I laud them for that. Plus I enjoyed the beer, and would happily order many of them again. And that should be more than enough.

I look forward, if the universe permits, to a return trip to these same pubs to see how they have matured and evolved.
