So, I think Edmontonians are liking the idea of cask ale. The Sugar Bowl was hopping again last night for the second monthly cask event. The cask – the Steam beer without dry hopping – disappeared in 90 minutes once again – and this time the pouring went much more smoothly. Everyone had their first within 10 or 15 minutes. I think the serving went so smoothly they were able to move to seconds for those who wanted it.
They also announced next month’s date – July 15. Looks like Thursday is the chosen day, not sure when they will settle in on which week of the month. No word yet on the beer, although whispers say it might be something with the Amber.
In other Sugar Bowl-related news, the Sugar Bowl owners and I have agreed to try doing some informal beer tasting and teaching sessions. The plan is for me to spend a couple hours serving up samples of a beer and talking with customers about the beer, beer styles and offering beer education generally. The first date for this new adventure is Wednesday July 7. It is one of those kind of things that you may not want to come simply for the tasting, but if you happen to be at the Sugar Bowl, or feel like having a beer anyway, it might offer some value-added to your experience at the Sugar Bowl.
Just thought you might be interested.

Hey what time does the beer tasting on the 7th start??

Hi Kurt,
Since it is an informal tasting, the start time is less important. I will be there from 6:00 till about 8:00 or so. It is the first time we are tying to do it, so who knows how it will all work. I will report on it afterward.
Cheers.
