Urban Diner on 109 Street has secured its second Yukon exclusive (the first was the Lead Dog on tap at its opening). This Friday at 4:00, the first of two kegs of Yukon’s latest seasonal, Porter, will be tapped. This is the first time the porter has left the safe confines of Whitehorse. They will be served until gone (likely a few days).
I want to be clear about something. Edmontonians should feel very thankful for a shipment of the porter. Most of Yukon’s seasonal products sell out within days – all in Whitehorse. The reason is that Yukon can likely claim to be the only craft brewer in the county who has a largest share of the tap market in their hometown. They sell more Yukon on tap up there than any of the big boys combined. Yes, I know Whitehorse is a small market, but it is still bloody impressive. Even the big restaurant chains with “Pizza” in their name, who normally send craft brewers packing, carry some Yukon.
Urban Diner, of course, was the host of the recent Yukon Beer Dinner, and have been working to build a special relationship with our good friends from the north. So consider popping in for a pint.
