Edmonton’s youngest brewery, Yellowhead Brewing, is celebrating its first Christmas in the right way – by giving back to the community. From today to Wednesday (it actually started last Friday…), Yellowhead is hosting a daily open house, from 1 to 5 pm, but with a twist. It is a fundraiser for two Edmonton charities.
Yellowhead has erected a 25-foot tree in their brewhouse and are inviting Edmontonians to bring winter wear – scarves, mittens, toques, etc. – to hang on the tree. All donations will go to the Mustard Seed Society. They are also asking people to bring a non-perishable donation for the food bank.
This is a family-friendly event. Hot chocolate, coffee and tea will be served, and a pianist will help lead caroling for those so inclined. Santa will be hanging around for photos for kids (and dogs, too, if they want). And even though they didn’t say so, I imagine beer lovers who have been very good might be able to get a small sample of Yellowhead’s lager – but only when Santa isn’t looking!
So consider bringing your family by to meet the folks behind Yellowhead and bring some warmth to Edmontonians in need.
The brewery is located at 10229 – 105 Street.

Missed the open-house, but I’ve got a couple scarves, a few toques, a pair of mitts & some gloves up there(on the tree).
On a related seasonal note, I popped into Alley Kat to pick up some Coffee Porter-really liked the sample-& a couple Cascadian Ales – got a complimentary limited edition Chocolate/Orange Porter(looking forward to that!)
