Last week the folks behind Beer and Butter Tarts – a blog aggregator committed to profiling Canadian-based food and drink blogs – opened nominations for the 2010 Canadian Food Blog Awards. This is their creative brainwave to draw more attention to the hundreds of talented writers blogging about food, beer, wine and other libations and to celebrate the best among them.

I like this idea. No prizes, other than bragging rights, will be awarded, but it is a clever way to get more readers checking out the diversity of food and drink blogs in this country.

Nominations opened November 21 and close on December 21. Results will be posted January 31, 2011. There are wide range of categories, encompassing the myriad of food and drink topics, including Best Beer Blog, Best Regional Blog, Best Writing, Best Individual Post, Best New Blog and so on. There is even a People’s Choice Award, which will open to public voting in January. Here is the complete list of categories and rules.

I truly do appreciate this initiative and encourage all of you to check out the nominated sites when the list of finalists is released. I also admit that I have been struggling a bit with how to approach it regarding my own blog. I realize I could just nominate myself, if so inclined (the rules allow it). But that doesn’t seem cool to me, somehow.

So after some thought, I have decided to toss it out to you, my loyal and not-so-loyal readers. I realize that you are in the best place to decide if this little project of mine is worth being nominated. Plus how do I know what my best posts are – or even which categories in which onbeer.org should be nominated, if at all? Only you know that.

Therefore, if you feel so moved, go ahead and nominate me (I won’t refuse). Pick whatever categories and posts that you want. Or don’t. That would be fair too. I will speak no more of the subject.

[p.s. Beer and Butter Tarts are having some technical difficulties and not adding any new posts for the moment. Please be patient with them – they are victims of too much success too soon.]
