My latest CBC column(from last Friday) is now posted online. It is about my recent trip to Montreal, where I got to spend a few days submersing myself in Montreal’s amazing beer scene. It is the first of what will be a number of pieces I do on Montreal (including on this site) as I got SO much material from those few days. The column does a good job of informing people about what the Montreal beer scene is about, but what I really like about it is the rant at the end. I have been wanting to let loose on Edmonton’s local-phobia for a while, and this gave me the chance to do it. Edmonton, and quite frankly ALL of western Canada, needs to be more vocal in our demand that pubs carry local micros. What are they afraid of? So, come on beer drinkers, demand local content in your local pub! We can have what Montreal has; we just have to demand it!

I heard that column live to air, and I thought it was facinating. Why can’t Edmonton embrace local beer like Montreal? No reason in the world. Why is there only one brewpub in Edmonton? Same reason. Why can’t we have a brewpub with a rotating lineup of 80 different beers on tap? Call me on Sunday to see if I won 6/49 and can retire from the Law.
