Beer History in an Unexpected Place

During my trip to Britain, I took a day trip to a little city called Wigan. Most of you will never have heard of it. It is about an hour’s train ride northwest of Manchester. For most tourists there is… Continue Reading →

The Beer Traditions of Caledonia

Unlike England, which has more breweries than you can keep track of, Scotland has a relatively small brewery network. There is, of course, Tennent’s, until recently an AB-Inbev brand but now owned by cider distributor C&C Group, which dominates the… Continue Reading →

A Cut Above, But Still Not Enough

A few months back I reported that Belgian Beer Cafe opened in the Edmonton International Airport. This corporate-owned Belgian themed restaurant  was a mildly interesting announcement at the time, but it hardly seemed worth making a beeline for it, especially… Continue Reading →

The Beerguy and Mr. Keith

I need not tell anyone reading this website that one of the most infuriating bits of misinformation in the beer world is AB-Inbev’s insistence on calling Alexander Keith’s an IPA, despite the very obvious evidence that it is far from… Continue Reading →

Now a Pearson Layover Ain’t So Bad

Many of you will remember my rant a few weeks back about the dearth of decent beer offerings in Canadian airports. It still stand by it (although it is hardly controversial), but I do wish to now add a caveat…. Continue Reading →
