To celebrate the grand opening of their new location on 109 St, the owners of the Urban Diner have arranged for an Alberta first. Two kegs of Yukon’s Lead Dog Ale have been shipped down from Whitehorse and are exclusive to the new location. Lead Dog, of course, is Yukon’s take on an old ale a warming, rich winter brown ale. It has been available in the bottle for some time, but this is the first we will see it on tap. I like experiencing how different a beer tastes between the bottle and keg. Sometimes it can be quite telling.
At any rate, the keg will be tapped at 4:00 at the new Urban Diner (8715 – 109 Street) – just on the south end of the High Level bridge. I am told that the owners have made an effort to build a strong beer menu and are offering a lounge area as an added draw for the restaurant. I have not seen the list yet, but there are suggestions it will include beer not available elsewhere in town. I will report on it if I get a chance.
Rumour also has it that they plan to do a semi-regular feature with Yukon, bringing in seasonals not normally available outside of Whitehorse. If that pans out that could be a great addition to the beer scene in town – more Yukon yumminess.
Consider popping by for a sample of the Lead Dog.

In the new Tomato, they listed BrewDog and R&B from Vancouver.

Hi Jason, I saw this post and we went straight to the new diner. I had the Yukon draft, but it was Red, not Lead Dog. Still a tasty treat. Thanks for the tip.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the comment, but you didn’t read my post carefully enough. The Lead Dog isn’t coming on tap until FRIDAY! It will replace the Red as long as it lasts.
So try visiting again on Friday afternoon, and then you will get your chance to try the Lead Dog.
Keep reading the blog!

Hello, this is a response to Chase.
I apologize for the slight misinformation in The Tomato. They misquoted me. We are carrying R&B Brewing, from Vancouver, Hoppelganger/Raven Cream Ale and their Sun God filtered Whaet Ale. We are anticipating the arrival from Scotland of the new (to Canada) Brewdog products -Trashy Blonde, 5am Saint and Spirit of ’77 Lager. I am hopeful to have these awesome beers on our list at Urban Diner II by December if all goes well.
The plan for the tap at Diner II is to feature a new Yukon beer by keg every 4 months, or so, that will be exclusive in the province to our restaurant.
